Finally, there is someone out there authoritative and knowledgeable enough to shine the light of truth on those who have refashioned the Arab-Israeli conflict in terms of legality – mostly Israel’s “illegal occupation of Occupied Arab Land.” Prof. Abraham A. Sion, Professor Emeritus at Ariel University in Israel where, for over a decade, he chaired the Center for Law and Mass Media, has thirty years behind him explaining the legal aspects of the Arab-Israeli conflict. He has also served as Deputy State Attorney for Israel. His interest in the legal aspects of the Arab Israeli conflict began as a doctoral student at Cambridge University at the time of the Six Day War and continued as a visiting professor at Stanford University.
We are lucky to have him, and grateful he has written this book, which takes us step by step through the vicious and deliberate lies created by Israel’s enemies, accepted as fact by the ignorant and spread to every corner of the world creating a false narrative that is perhaps more lethal than the tunneling of terrorists from Gaza because it permits Israel’s enemies to silence her friends in the name of social justice, which, as we all know, is now the new holy grail.
As a long-time advocate for Israel, I realized as I was reading this excellent book just how much I didn’t know which could be helpful in refuting this malicious propaganda. For example, the term Palestine was hardly ever used until it was “revived by the British for the sole purpose of detaching it from Syria and establishing within it a National Home for the Jewish people on the footing of the Balfour Declaration.” That there were 600,000 Jews in the British Mandate, one-third of the population, and that they were also considered Palestinians.”

Most outrageous is that almost all international organizations, egregiously the United Nations but “including the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and the majority of legal scholars” have come to the conclusion that establishment of Israeli settlements in Judea and Samaria is illegal under the Fourth Geneva Convention. “
Everyone assumes this is correct. But as Prof. Sion conclusively shows, these bodies could only have come to this idea by “ignoring the original treaties and resolutions that shaped the legal structure of the Middle East at the beginning of the Twentieth Century: the McMahon pledge, the Balfour Declaration, the San Remo Resolution, the Treaty of Sèvres, and most of all the Mandate for Palestine which conferred on Britain the task of establishing in Palestine a National home for the Jewish people.”
All of these legally binding treaties have been ignored as the propagandists rewrite history and maul the entire legal structure on which the entire Middle East is based in favor of the false narrative promoted by Israel’s enemies.
The rights derived from these binding international commitments made to the Jewish people were “still valid when Israel occupied the West Bank, pursuant to Article 80 of the United Nations’ Charter which provides:
Nothing in this Chapter(16) shall be construed in or of itself to alter in any manner the rights whatsoever of any states or any peoples or the terms of existing international instruments to which members of the United Nations may respectively be parties.
I highly recommend this important book to all Israel’s friends, and even more to her enemies. A book that needs to be read and taught and absorbed as an antidote to the poison of the sickening anti-Israel free-for-all now taking over the world.
