The Gathering Storm

General Martin Dempsey has made it clear that America’s timetable and Israel’s differ. We are facing utter annihilation; America is not.

Israel, the end of summer, 2012. We drive down Highway 6, crowded with families headed to holiday flats in the Galilee, the Jezreel Valley and the Golan Heights, station wagons filled with laughing children, bikes and pool mattresses.

Along with everyone else, we pull off midway for an ice cream or a cup of coffee and croissant at a rest stop, getting in line behind dads carrying restless two year-olds, and pregnant women ordering lattes.

Only a few days before our trip, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad addressed worshipers at Tehran University after nationwide pro-Palestinian rallies, an annual event marking Quds (Jerusalem) Day on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan, saying: “The existence of the Zionist regime is an insult to all humanity.”

Luckily, our little ones don’t read the papers.

We travel in two cars, one for the grandparents (us) and one for our son, daughter-in-law and glorious grandchildren, four of them, all under the age of eight. The little ones are jumping around, anxious to get to their holiday destination, their minds focused solely on jumping into a cool body of water. But our holiday cabins at Kibbutz Nir David near Beit She’an will only be available at 3 PM, so we must find a way to entertain them until then.

Our first stop is Beit She’arim. The magnificent necropolis of burial caves dating back to King Herod is a dark and cool place for restless children to explore. The walls are covered with Jewish symbols: a seven-branched menorah, an ark of the covenant, an etrog and lulav, all thrilling reminders of the flourishing Jewish life of the lower Galilee six centuries before the Arab conquest.

Most famous is the grave of Rabbi Yehuda Hanassi, head of the Sanhedrin, who moved that great judicial body to Beit She’arim. More recently, the statue of Alexander Zaid on horseback overlooking the Jezreel Valley reminds us of the never-ending struggles and sacrifice to rebuild our homeland on this ancient ground.

Zaid, a veteran of the Jewish defense organization Bar Giora, which later became Hashomer, settled here in 1926 with his wife Zipporah and their four children, serving as a guard on behalf of the Jewish National Fund. Twelve years later he was murdered close to his home by a local Bedouin. His killer was apprehended and killed by the Palmach.

It is a story we will revisit again and again on our brief summer vacation. For after splashing in the cool spring waters of Gan Hashlosha National Park, we visit a museum which is an exact reconstruction of the courtyard of Tel Amal, the first of the tower and stockade settlements set up overnight in the pre-state period to forestall Arab attack and British attempts to freeze immigration and settlement from 1936 to 1939.

The plan, conceived by Moti Gur, a member of Kibbutz Nir David, was to build a wooden tower crowned by a searchlight for observation and signaling, surrounded by a few huts, and then to enclose the entire area with a high wall built of two wooden fences made bullet-proof by an infill of gravel. Within less than three years, 55 communities were established in this way, from Kibbutz Dan in the north to Kibbutz Negba in the south, many of them in areas where there had been no Jewish life for over a thousand years.

It was a hard life for the hardy pioneers. Our children peek into the bare bedrooms and rough kitchen. They don the blue aprons and head scarves of pioneers, hoisting hoes and gathering stones. They carry pails to a spring, filling them with water which they empty into a bucket with a washboard so they can practice clothes-washing pioneer-style.

I look at them, these little sabras, born into a free, peace-loving country of natives and survivors, immigrants fleeing the worst nightmare of persecution that mankind has yet to invent and impose on their fellow men. They are full of joy as they pretend to cook dinner and hoe gravel. Climbing the watchtower, we enjoy the magnificent view of the green oasis and its sparkling waters. I think of the chain of history that has brought them, their parents and myself to this place and time in the history of the Jews.

The news broadcasts quote Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, the filthy little proxy warlord terrorist tied to Iran, who announces his group will transform the lives of millions of Israelis into “hell.” Considering that the last Lebanese war ended prematurely, thanks to the genius of Tsipi Livni and Ehud Olmert, allowing Hezbollah to completely rearm, I take him seriously.

Nir David is a lush green carpet with a river of spring water flowing gently through it. Beneath the still blanket of summer heat, our children play in the shadows of enormous palm trees, feed the ever hungry ducks and fish day-old bread, and put on their water wings to dive into the Olympic pool at the modern athletic center. The sound of horses whinnying in the stables, the riot of birds, the squeak of bicycle wheels are the only ones that punctuate the calm.

On Sunday, August 19, when we were all back home, parents getting the children’s clothes and school supplies ready for the start of the new school year, Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy told Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh that “Egypt and Palestine are one entity.”

And so the storm gathers. Turkey, once a friend, ally and popular vacation spot, has been transformed into an Islamic republic which has slammed its door in our faces. Egypt, our peace partner, has been taken over by the Muslim Brotherhood. Syria is overwhelmed by savage forces, none of them reasonable or less hate-filled toward us than the other. Lebanon’s Hezbollah is an Iranian puppet. And Iran and Iraq, once enemies, now cooperate to overcome the Western boycott that is naively attempting to slow down the production of a nuclear bomb to fulfill the Iranian mullahs’ insane vision of messianic days – Muslim fanatic style – i.e. a map with no Israel.

We and our children and grandchildren, the remnant of the great nation of Israel of biblical times, sit in the middle of a maelstrom as the evil forces of the world gather around our hard-won, industrious, beautiful little country and its wonderful, creative, beautiful people. Some have faith in our army. Some in our government. Some in God. Some, like myself, in all three.

But wherever we put that faith, it is increasingly clear that we can no longer put it in any of our fellow human beings in America or Europe. For it is clear that President Barack Obama, unlike his predecessor, is not ready for a war against a nation with weapons of mass destruction simply because of the human threat they pose to mankind. He is focused on exposing Mr. Romney’s tax returns.

His head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey, has made it clear that America’s timetable and Israel’s differ. We are facing utter annihilation; America is not. Still, in a final ringing slap in the face, he nevertheless urges Israel to do nothing as he feels we lack the capability to defend ourselves. How helpful.

As for Europe, instead of calling Iran a global genocidal enemy of all Europe and all humanity, and Ahmadinejad the spiritual heir to Hitler and the Nazis, they came out with the “strongly worded statement” that “Israel has a right to exist.”

Thank you so much. What would we do without you Europeans? The words “never again” ring hollow these days, as the storm clouds gather and the peaceful days of summer come to an end, and we wait, patiently, filled with fear and courage and hope for what is to come.

But our enemies, however numerous, would do well to remember this: They are not facing the unarmed Jews of Europe 70 years ago. This time, they will be at the center of any hell they unleash.

Why should the US taxpayer pay one single penny to fund another Mideast war?? Isn’t it enough that we’re pouring trillions into fighting Iran and Pakistan in Afghanistan and Iraq, while we and our European “allies” are pouring billions into Iran and Pakistan so that they can afford to fight us in Afghanistan and Iraq? Now Israel wants money too? Why should we give them a penny? They’re not our enemies!

For the record, Mitt Romney is a very good man, who will start to mend US relations with Israel, on his FIRST DAY in office. He has saved many a failing company, and he spared no effort or expense in rescuing the kidnapped daughter of one of his employees, at Bain Capital. Romney pays careful attention to cost, something Barack Obama knows nothing about, and cares even less about. How can anyone ignore the abuses of the Obama administration, towards Israel and towards America; Yet be concerned about what Mitt Romney did in HIGH SCHOOL? Ms. Rothstein you would do well to remember that the Obama administration has allowed terrorists into the White House, and Obama has done everything he can to weaken America; and cares nothing for Israel. Read Edward Klein’s book, “The Amateur,” and you will know with whom you are dealing. And pray for Israel every day, as we do here at this small crossroads town near Washington DC.

    Dear Ms Ragen:
I commend you on your clear depiction of the unsafe position Israel finds herself in today. I cannot disagree more with Ms. Rothman. She clearly has a poor understanding of Mormonism and the role played by Romney in the church. The church has lay preachers, and yes Romney was at one time a Bishop and later a stake President. His dealings with people and in business has always been honorable. So now it is easy to understand how she has got President Obama all wrong. Close examination of his past and present actions show that he is not the friend to Israel she erroneously believes.

Naomi, I think it is clear what is to be done.

Somehow, I am not surprised at statements like Gen. Dempsey’s. Having been in two Middle East wars (whether or not we should have is debatable), I understand that there is reluctance for the United States to participate in something that could lead to a third. However, to then say that Israel’s existential concerns don’t matter and Israel should not “rock the boat” by unilateral action is easy for him to say–as you said, America’s existence is not at stake, whereas Israel’s is.

It seems that every other country would like Israel to just disappear. And like it or not, this is the new anti-Semitism.

I can imagine that this is what the world thought when Israel bombed the Osiraq reactor in Iraq in 1985. Oh, the horror that Israel dared to take steps to combat the threat! Of course, the same countries probably were grateful that there weren’t nuclear weapons in 1991 when the world “united” to free Kuwait.

And apparently the world doesn’t care about Iran’s pronouncements about the “Zionist entity” needing to be destroyed. Of course, their leaders are wrong about what needs to be destroyed and what is unnatural in the region. Ultimately, they’ll get theirs someday because the one country that belongs in the region IS Israel, notwithstanding what the anti-Semites say. I don’t think I need to restate that there was a European leader who pretty much said the same thing in the 1930’s. The difference, as you noted, is that there is a way Jews can defend themselves today and a state that will back up what it says.

One of the quotes I think up with respect to articles like this is one from Leon Uris’ Exodus. This sums up my attitude toward not only the Iranians and Europeans, but the current administration: “So let us be wrong in the eyes of the whole damned world.” Ultimately history will see who is right in this decision whether or not to bomb the Iranian nuclear sites.

I have a better title for that group called Rabbis for Obama. How about simply calling them Kapos?

  6. Rabbi Fleishig

How exactly did we go from the subject of this article (the immediacy and seriousness of the threat Israel faces from Iran) to becoming embroiled in the strident fantasies of the lunatic left (Romney will send all women back to the kitchen barefoot, re-enslave African Americans and send everybody’s job to China)? Can we stay on topic?

  7. Mark Luhman

I find it funny how liberal women claim republicans want to make women second class citizen which is a lie, but will support a party, the Democrats whom want to make all citizen second class except for the ruling elite. They do not believe on one person one vote, you only have to look at their opposition to voter ID laws, they do not support that it your money and you can spend it any way you want to, rather they assume all money is the governments and it up to the government how it spent. Then their support for the Muslim religion, to liberals Christianity is evil and needs to be stomp out, yet never a bad word about the Muslim religion and how it treats women. Of course I have found long ago that ration thought and liberalism do not go together.

Very trying times for Israel and what will remain of the United States after her betrayal of Israel. So many fools voted for the usurper to be president and none of them can tell you with any certainty who he really is or where he was born or what country he is a citizen of. We can know of a certainty that Ha Shem will judge harshly those who would betray Israel!

  9. Jaime Eisen

Thanks to Carter there is an enemy of Israel in Iran. Thanks to Clinton Moslems control a large chunk of the Balkans. Thanks to Hussein Obama Turkey, Lybia, Tunnisia and Egypt are becoming enemies of Israel. I would not be surprised that all of them together with Hamas and Hezbolla would try a repeat of the surprise attack of the 1973 Yom Kippur war.

  10. james wilson

Forget America. America is in decline, and the economy is the least of it.

Ironically, an Israel without allies is likely to be a far more formidable foe. If there is another war, let it be your last.

Ms Rothman, re. your comment of Aug. 25,2012, My father used to say ,”What you do speaks so loudly, I can’t hear a word you say.” What Soetero aka obama says vs/ what he does; ie. support muslim brotherhood!!! Shalom again,Y. owen G.H.

  12. yedeedeyah owen gelsinger-hueber

Dear Ms Rothman, HE IS AMERICAN!!! Does Indonesia have dual citizenship w. America? Does one need to be a citizen of Indonesia to go to school in Indonesia? Where did Barry Soetero (AKA barakh hussien obama) go to school? Did he receive “aid to a foreign student” to attend school in the United States of America? Ms Rothman, get real, both islam (submit!!!) and mormonism were founded by murderous, pedophiles!!! STUDY and SEARCH!!! Barry Soetero aka B. Hussein.O. had an AMERICAN MOTHER!!!! HE IS AN AMERICAN CITIZEN!!!,therefore subject to TRIAL (not only impeachment) for HIGH TREASON!!! (also multiple major real estate fraud in Chicago). (and what of ‘acorn’?!!!!!!!) Shalom,YedeedYah

Ms.Rothman,I have no words to express my outrage related to your comments. I do not believe that you are pro-israel. You rather remind me German Jews Circa 1930th, who tried
to justify Hitler’s actions. Because of Jews like you Obama can be re-elected and then it will be too late. I do not know if you are ignorant or just out of touch of reality.
I hope God will punish you and people like you

The Mormon church that I have known all my life teaches that any reference to the Jewish people in a derogatory or unkind manner is out of harmony with the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the true name of the Mormon church)

    • Barry Koplen

Thanks, Kathy, for setting the record straight.
Your well-informed answers are the most meaningful rebuttal.

  15. Kathy Gifford

Ms. Rothman, your ignorance is showing. It is patently false that the Mormon Church considers Jews to be infidels. We consider them to be children of God and our brothers and sisters. I don’t know where you’re getting your information, but it is wrong.

  16. EDG

Putting Israel’s concerns above life here in the United States is scary. If you want to go back to the days when women were second class citizens than definitely vote for Romney and Ryan. However, if you truly believe that women are allowed to have their own opinions and lives than you have no choice to vote for Obama. The Romney-Ryan ticket will return you to the days where you were the property of either your father or husband.

    • Carol

Israel is in the crosshairs now, but the free world is imminently there as the Caliphate marches closer. Obama, with his “diplomacy” subterfuge, threatens all of us in the west. As an 85 year old who acieved a PhD, work success, 5 children and a great sustaining marriage–I vote for Romney/Ryan because they are the only honest realists around. Abandon Obama while there is still time.

      • Barry Koplen

        Carol-
        I agree with you wholeheartedly.
Indeed, I write about this more often than Naomi.
If interested, please see Poetscry! at bloodspot.
More of us need to communicate and express
        our informed thoughts and opinions.
I respect Naomi for encouraging that.

EDG- I’m thinking that an Islamic nutcase working on the bomb with the stated intent to wipe out a free nation trumps your lousy birth control.

What’s truly scary is that someone as ill-informed as you has a vote.

    • BeeLine

      EDG-
I don’t understand people like you.

You are so concerned about women’s rights and you are worried about going back to the days when women were second class citizens. Have you seen how women are treated in the Islamic world? You do not seem to have a clue.

Romney and Ryan are not going to hurt any women’s rights. A vote for Obama is infinitely more dangerous to women’s rights.

  17. Emily Panzer DeRosa

My mother, may she have peace, was a deep supporter of Israel and also a Democrat. She died before all of this transpired but she would surely vote for Romney if she was still living! She would get on a soap box and sing his praises. But take heart–not many Americans, Jewish or not will vote for Obama. We have cousins there and even though we lost touch through the years,we worry for them and for all of you. Masy Hashem bless and take care of Israel.

  18. Condie

Israel and the world is in a desperate situation. Iran must be stopped, but please, please wait until after the election! A war now will ensure Obama’s re-election. He will pretend, for the moment to side with Israel but will show no substantial support.
After he has had his victory at the polls, Israel will be alone. The world as we know it will perish.

Stacy Rothman, unfortunately, it os you who are not knowledgeable about Obama, Romney, anf the Israel-Iran situation. Romney is 100% pro-Israel, and he simply cannot be accused of making money dishonestly. Several groups related to the Democratic Party smear campaign of Romney have dug deeply, spoken to Bain associates, personal friends and business people with whom he has dealt and his record is impeccable. Either you have fallen for their propaganda, or are a proponent of it. obama has demonstrated through one action after another, he and his administration are not friends of Israel. It is undeniable. From his acceptance of illegal campaign contributions from Hamas, and his first phone call to a foreign leader, Abu Mazan, to his speech in Cairo, to the military undermining of Israel’s military, to his treatment of PM Netanyahu, to his remark to PM Sarkozy about Netanyahu and Israel exposed on an open mic of which he was unaware, to his insistence in paying the Hamas Gaza government -even in overriding Congress’ resolution not to, to his support of America’s and Israel’s enemies, and his refusal to visit Israel, to his call for pre-negotiation compromise of accepting Israel return to the 1967 lines with swaps, his interference in domestic zoning laws , and his refusal, now exposed, of accepting Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, while continuing to train and outfit the PA to eventually be able to fight against Israel, there is no verification of his backing Israel. His policy on
Iran and refusal to support Israel in defending herself, further ,insisting on Israel standing down,
are unconscionable. The above are merely a few examples. However, do add, he supports the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood, in fact, those supporting the Brotherhood and WHO EITHER ARE A MEMBER, OR A MEMBER OF AN OFFSHOOT ORGANIZATION, or a supporter of terrorist groups on the State Department list, ARE EVEN AT THE HIGHEST levels of the Administration, including the White House and the Defense Department and, apparently, on Hillary’s staff.
It is you, in the end, that lack hard fact.
It is obvious as well you do not know Mitt and/or, Ann Romney. He is a bishop, by the way, and enabled numerous companies to be on solid fiscal foundations, not fire people, but to reorganize , offering buyouts of employees when appropriate,, and ,then, enabling the companies to grow. Such growth in many cases, permitted rehiring those who had to be let-go. Yes, he admits, all were not successes, but the majority were and are. ( Babe Ruth said to hit 500 he had to miss 500. )His and Bain’s actions result , to this day, in many newly founded companies , the restoration of others, and in hundreds of thousands of JOBS. Obama has not. Gas is almost triple what it was when he came into office. Oil and petroleum derivatives, in case you don’t know, is in thousands of products , thus, the cost of simply eating and maintaining a home and buying creams and cosmetics are increased as well. He’s insisting the EPA mandate of 10% of every gallon of gas be ethanol and hiking the cost of meat that has already increased 7,3% is against the consumer as the drought is taking its toll on corn supplies. Corn is in almost every product.
GM still owes the American taxpayer well over $28 BILLION. It is not healthy, and cannot sell the Volt. We real Americans want are founding principles to be restored. WE like our Freedoms as guaranteed in the Constitution. Romney understands the enemies of the US-and Israel.

Naomi, your article, “The Gathering Storm”, is excellent. I agree wholeheartedly. When our nation, America, ceases to support the nation of Israel, we will be coming to an end. God said to Abraham, “Those who bless you, I will bless, and those who curse you, I will curse.” I still believe that for today. I stand 100% behind Israel. Tragically, our present government does not. May the Lord bless you and keep you.

  22. Barry Koplen

It’s hard to believe that Ms. Rothman is so offended by Mormoms; they have addressed Jewish concerns more genuinely than President Obama has dealt with Israel’s. The same can be said for the Muslims who Obama promotes and defends.

For many years, Mormoms have been my clients; they have all been honest and sincere. All of them have known that I am Jewish.

What I question now, as I did four years ago, is Obama’s leadership and his integrity. His behavior as President has only added to my doubt.

Because I live in America and my children live in Israel, I’ve had to keep close watch on both countries. My conclusion differs from yours, Ms. Rothman. Mr. Obama has a lot to learn, as a world leader, from Mr. Netanyahu.

It alarms me that he hasn’t gone to Israel for lessons in courage and leadership.

Although I am proud to be a Jewish American, I am not proud of our President. Four more years would invite disaster.

    Dear Naive Stacey,
To be honest, we in Israel don’t give a hoot about either Romney or Obama. Both of them, as have all previous US presidents (with the rare exception of Nixon), always put the US’s selfish interests before Israel. PERIOD.
The fact that you and all the other anaesthetized American Jews are still in America (and not in Israel), and worrying yourselves so passionately about those 2 goyish nobodies, proves just how far you have fallen from Hashem’s grace. That’s where you are in your lives. What a waste.
No, I’m not interested in being politically correct, or even nice. I’m interested in one thing only – saving Jewish lives, and you are not part of the equation.
    Come home. NOW.

Stacey Rothman demonstrates the insanity of the Liberal or Progressive Jew. To her, Mitt Romney because he is a Morman is a greater danger to the world than Ahmadinijad who had promised to lay waste to Israel. “He is a lying, cheating and despicable human being”. Yes you’re right if you were talking about that Marxist, Islamist, criminal and illegal occupant of the White House. But you are not. You are talking about a decent American who despite his faults is our best and only hope to restore America to sanity. I sincerely hope that there are not too many Stacey Rothmans in this country.(If in fact there is such a person and not one of Obama’s minions pretending to be Jewish)

  25. JohnB

Unfortunately you are absolutely correct, Naomi.
That there are none so blind as those who will not see becomes very sad when the consequences of such blindness come to fruition.
It is horrible and painful to acknowledge but this should have been seen and recognised 10, 12 years ago.
Because it was further off, not imminent, a distant scenario, should not have obscured the direction of travel of events, and where the situation would arrive, given time.
Denial does not work as a policy option!
The 2007 NIE report which effectively established that Iran had given up on its nuclear ambitions should be seen for the hideous deception that it was.

ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS AND HERE ARE OBAMA’S:
‘Rabbis for Obama’ Boycott Israel and Cozy Up to Ahmadinejad
        by Rachel Hirshfeld

President Obama’s re-election campaign announced last week the launch of “Rabbis for Obama,” an initiative aimed at rallying Jewish support for the president in the upcoming elections.

What has recently come to light, however, is that the list of over 600 rabbis, many of whom are Reform, Conservative and female and would thus not be considered as such by the Orthodox community, also includes many unabashedly anti-Israel figures, who align themselves with the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement against the Jewish state.

Lynn Gottlieb, for example, has met with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and sits on the board of Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), an organization that has been listed as one of the “Top Ten Anti-Israel groups” by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).

According to the ADL, JVP “…calls for an end to U.S. aid to Israel, accuses Israel of ‘apartheid’ policies, and supports divestment campaigns against Israel. Like other Jewish anti-Zionist groups, JVP uses its Jewish identity to shield the anti-Israel movement from allegations of anti-Semitism and provide a greater degree of credibility to the anti-Israel movement…. JVP activists regularly attend anti-Israel events wearing T-shirts and holding signs proudly broadcasting their Jewish identity. In March-April 2010, leaders of JVP unsuccessfully lobbied for the passage of a divestment resolution at the University of California, Berkeley, targeting companies that do business with Israel.”

Executive Director of the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC), Matt Brooks, said in a statement that “there can only be two explanations for her inclusion in the list: 1) the Obama campaign failed to properly vet the rabbis on their official list, or 2) they did properly vet the rabbis and chose to ignore… Gottlieb’s radical views.”

“This speaks volumes about the Obama campaign’s judgment and the RJC calls on the Obama campaign to immediately remove her from any formal or official involvement in the campaign,” Brooks said.

Another name on the list, Chava Bahle, is a member of “14 Friends of Palestine,” an organization that advocated condemning Israel for the Gaza flotilla incident in 2010 and falsely accuses Israel of preventing food and medical supplies from reaching Gaza.

In his book, “Wrestling in the Daylight: A Rabbi’s Path to Palestinian Solidarity,” Brant Rosen, a clergyman who is also listed among Obama’s supporters, wrote a wholly biased and inaccurate description of Operation Cast Lead, in which he portrays Israel as the undeniable oppressor, aggressor and pariah. Rosen is also a member of the BDS movement.

Another name on the list, Aruthur Waskow, is associated with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), an organization that is also on the ADL’s most anti-Israel group list.

The above are merely a few of the many anti-Israel figures whose names appear on the list.

At the time “Rabbis for Obama” was announced, Ira Forman, Jewish outreach director for the campaign, issued a statement saying, “These rabbis mirror the diversity of American Jewry. Their ringing endorsement of President Obama speaks volumes about the President’s deep commitment to the security of the state of Israel and his dedication to a policy agenda that represents the values of the overwhelming majority of the American Jewish community.”

Chairman of the Emergency Committee for Israel (ECI), William Kristol, wrote a letter to President Obama calling on the administration to repudiate such anti-Israel figures.

“Far from demonstrating a ‘deep commitment to the security of the state of Israel,’ these figures have demonstrated a deep hostility to the state of Israel and a deep commitment to demonizing the Jewish state and undermining the U.S.-Israel alliance,” Kristol wrote. “We are sure that you will be distressed to discover that your own campaign has included so many of them on the list of ‘Rabbis for Obama.’ We cannot imagine their endorsements are ones you welcome.”

“This is, as you have pointed out, a particularly perilous time for the people of Israel. We trust you do not want, however inadvertently, to signal in any way a lack of commitment to Israel’s security or a lack of concern for Israel’s well-being. So we look forward to your repudiation of the anti-Israel figures among the “Rabbis for Obama.” And we respectfully suggest that you have an urgent and serious conversation with whoever in your campaign thought it appropriate to trumpet their support as a way of making your case to the pro-Israel community.” Kristol added.

    Dear Stacey
Thanks for your unclear insight into the tax returns of somebody…who cares about Mitt Romney?
How did your taxes do? Really, no body cares!!!
Your spewing of unmitigated knowledge astounded even me, who has never commented on any
blog or communication…You are a busy body that no one really listens to, they pretend they are listening, but really they are not…Blah, Blah, Blah…That is what you sound like in reality, the Charlie Brown trumpet sound in the cartoon…maybe you can run for President of the Misinformed Club in your locality.
I am not a Mormon, but why does his status in his religion, have anything to do with you? Nothing…
From what I have seen when I have visited Israel, the Mormon Church is one of your greatest allies and has been through great persecutions as well, kind of a bonding thing, but you would know nothing about that.

I feel that Naomi’s comments are right on the money, and if Israel is drawn into a hellish war, I will volunteer my Canadian talent of peeling potatoes for the soldiers in Israel.

PS I have made 21 trips to the the Holy Land and love the land and the Israeli people

Juxtaposed, your article, Naomi, with Ms Rothman’s provides vivid proof that Israel is vulnerable and young American Jews are blind. I refer her to the Ship of Fools because her naivete nd misplaced values cry out for maturity and an understanding of history.

As I read your very moving comments, I could hardly breathe. Even sitting thousands of miles away watching the events unfold the fear is unbearable. I envy your ability to externalize all your thoughts about the current situation. It simply paralyzes me.

    Dear Ms. Ragen,
As an American Jewish woman who is very pro-Israeli, I am shocked by your recents commentaries on Barack Obama. I totally disagree with you…….1000% Obviously you have not read and do not know your history on Mitt Romney or the Mormon Church of which he is a high Priest. He is a lying, cheating, dispicable human being who will do and say anything to become President. Yes, he made $42 million dollars last year and paid 15% in taxes. He made a lot of his money but disreputable means.
And, as far as President Obama is concerned, regardless of what you perceived as an American who made Aliyah, you are totally incorrect in your assessment. The reality is that the United States and President Obama has always stated that he fully SUPPORTS ISRAEL….and will support Israel. You actually have no reality or knowledge of what goes on “behind closed doors” with the American administration and Israel. Israel is the only democracy and ally of the United States in the Middle East…The US cannot afford to let anything happen to Israel and we know that it Israel and the United States are EQUAL TARGETS OF IRAN…..EQUAL ENEMIES regardless of their hate of Israel and Jews. They hate Americans just as much. I am so very disappointed in reading about your uneducated support of a immoral man such as Mitt Romney as are all of my educated and pro-Israeli friends who loved your books and felt very differently about you. DO YOUR DUE DILIGENCE AND READ ABOUT MITT ROMNEY FROM AN HONEST SITE….GO TO PARK ROMNEY.COM…MANY GREAT ARTICLES ABOUT THE TRUE AND REAL MITT ROMNEY AND THE MORMON CHURCH…..Did you know the Mormon Church considers Jews to be infidels and Mitt Romney being a High Priest, regardless of what he said when he was in Israel, believes this wholeheartedly.
    Sincerely,
    Stacey Rothman
