GAZA WAR DIARY: 6 NOVEMBER 2024

We are happy! Our Prime Minister wrote the following to President Elect Trump:

“Congratulations on history’s greatest comeback! Your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America.

This is a huge victory!
In true friendship,
Yours,
Benjamin and Sara Netanyahu”

Whatever happens, the threat of the terror-supporting Democratic party – Kamala Harris’s Presidential campaign’s Director of Muslim outreach, Nasrina Bargzie, is one of the lawyers who represented an Islamic scholar denied a visa by the Department of Homeland Security over his terrorist ties – will be gone in the near future. Thank you God! Thank you all the people who voted, for Trump even (especially?) those who overcame their deep dislike and did the right thing. It is deeply appreciated by every Israeli.

If we are not dancing in the streets here, it is only because election night was also the moment our Prime Minister decided to fire the Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant. Many are outraged that he did this in the middle of a war, just as Iran is threatening us with annihilation. Perfect timing for all our anxiety levels! But others, and my daughter is one of them, are delighted. Gallant has clashed with the Prime Minister for months over differing concepts of what needs to be done in this war. Gallant advocated an early ceasefire in Gaza, and was against the beeper operation and assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Many to the right saw him as still enslaved to the “old concepts” that got Israel in this mess to start with.

For example, in an interview on Arutz 7, Yitzchak Bontzal, father of fallen paratrooper Amit, described a meeting with Gallant which left him shocked and outraged. “When we talked about ‘the day after’ Gallant said: “we’ll leave Gaza in the hands of good Palestinians.” I couldn’t believe it! Haven’t we learned anything from the failures of Oslo?” Similarly, the father of Avinatan Or, a hostage in Gaza, expressed satisfaction, and suggested Netanyahu fire Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi as well while he was at it. “We are blessed to have gotten rid of the person who was Defense Minister on October 7; who arrogantly refused to cooperate with the decisions of the Cabinet and Prime Minister. Who wanted to leave the Philadephi Corridor – allowing Sinwar to escape with our hostages to Egypt – and didn’t want to go into Rafah. Who lengthened the war and didn’t want to bring it to a close with a decisive victory.”

Others feel that the move was simply a political ploy to keep Netanyahu in power by appeasing the haredi coalition partners by passing what is being cynically called “The Draft Evasion” law that will allow government subsidies to yeshiva students who refuse to serve in the army. Haredim hated Gallant because he issued 7,000 draft notices for haredim. I myself have suspicions that may be at least partially the case, given that Yisrael Katz was appointed in Gallant’s place. Katz is no stranger to kow-towing to the haredim. I say this from personal experience.

Years ago, when Katz was Minister of Transportation and the haredim were bullying women to sit in the back of public buses in Israel, and throwing off women who didn’t “dress” the way haredim wanted them to dress, we who opposed this had a meeting with Katz. You have no idea how accommodating MK Katz was to that disgusting haredi initiative, forcing us to take him and his Ministry to the Supreme Court, where we won.

Whatever the reasons or justifications, the timing couldn’t be worse, throwing the country once more into domestic turmoil, causing huge demonstrations. Last night, Tomer Bar, head of the Air Force who was on his way to his headquarters perhaps to prepare for an imminent Iranian attack, found himself stuck in a huge traffic jam because of the protestors!

What the hell?

I’m not going to be out in the street with signs. But we can do better than Katz as a replacement.

While we couldn’t be happier about Trump, we are worried that the Biden-Harris’ lame duck administration, freed from worrying about the voters, might take their revenge on Israel in the crucial weeks ahead, forcing us into dangerous compromises with our enemies. There is also the worry that Jared Kushner – who was the moving force behind the Abraham Accords, and the American Embassy move to Jerusalem –  will not be part of the new Trump administration. We badly need him there to be a good influence.

But we are encouraged that immediately following the election victory Yossi Dagan, head of the Samaria Regional Council, was invited to the Presidential Inauguration. Dagan was active in supporting Trump in meetings with the Jewish community in Pennsylvania, evangelicals, and American citizens in Israel. A heartwarming gesture of good-will towards people in Judea and Samaria whom the Biden Administration was busy “sanctioning” for no good reason.

Teheran has put up a new giant poster in Hebrew and Arabic in “Palestine Square” which reads: “America will discard you like used toilet paper.” How poetic! More like a prophecy about what the Iranian people are hopefully about to do to the mullahs.

Heavy barrages of rocket fire from Lebanon hit Israel today, some of it towards “Trump Heights” in the Golan. One rocket fragment landed in the parking lot of Ben Gurion International Airport. No one was hurt, although some flights were delayed. Another rocket fragment was photographed bizarrely sticking out of the smashed windshield of a parked car in Ra’anana (a suburb of Tel Aviv). A terror attack by car ramming and knifing also took place today at the Shiloh intersection. A young Jewish man and woman were slightly injured. The terrorist was shot and killed by a member of the public. Two people were also injured after heavy rocket fire from Hezbollah an Kibbutz Avivim, which is less than a kilometer from the Lebanese border.

Israel is busy bombing border villages that became Hezbollah outposts filled with weaponry. The crocodile tears of those talking about the destruction of “historic villages” are full of hypocrisy. Hezbollah destroyed them by turning them into armed camps with the full cooperation of the stupid villagers. Zero sympathy.

Lebanese media report at least 45 dead and 59 injured in 33 Israeli attacks today in the Beqaa Valley and Hermel – Baalbek. The overall number of attacks in Lebanon today was high.

And if you can believe it, according to Massad Boulos, Trump’s campaign coordinator for the Arab-American community and Tiffany Trump’s father-in-law, the end is in sight: “Trump will fulfill his promise to end the war in Lebanon before he is sworn in as President. I [Massad Boulos] will be appointed as the representative for the Lebanese side. Trump will appoint another representative for the Israeli side, and the negotiations to end the war in Lebanon will commence accordingly.”

All in the family… In that case, let’s get Jared and Ivanka involved too!

At a Pidyon Haben visit to Brooklyn this past weekend my sister asked if I’d seen your Gaza Diary. I said no, send me a link. After checking it out my only complaint? Why didn’t you ask me earlier?! Now I will be looking for your posts with bated breath and I’m not shy about reacting as I’m about to do.
I wasn’t thrilled with either candidate for President here in the US. Hard for me to get behind a guy who among other things dined with a virulent Nazi, or even worse warned it would be the Jews’ fault if he wasn’t elected (7.5% of the US population). That statement horrified me. I’m old enough to remember the Boats of Cherbourg double cross in 1969. I just believe Trumps loyalty to us, or anyone for that matter, is razor thin that will have to be managed skillfully. I agree with you, Jared would be helpful.
With regard to evangelical support, that too will have to be managed with open eyes. We mustn’t be naive about their agenda.
I know we will prevail in this fight if we continue to resist the ridiculous calls for cease fires.

      Alex,.
Jews comprise just 2.4% of the American population, not 7.5%.
Trump was correct in being very, very angry with American Jews for not voting for him. Not understanding the huge gap between American and Israeli Jewry, he thought that American Jews support Israel and should therefore support him. Well first of all, many American Jews who are highly supportive of Israel refused to vote for Trump on the grounds that this was not a one-issue election and Trump would be very bad for the States. Secondly, the non-Orthodox Jews’ vote has nothing to do with Israel. Trump supports Israel not for the Jewish vote, which has never swung a presidential election, but because Iran is America’s sworn enemy (as well as Israel’s).
Admit it: you were opposed to Trump long before his bad choice of sitting down to lunch with a Nazi.
As to Cherbourg, that was hardly American perfidy. France sold those ships to Israel, received full payment, and then refused to deliver them. I was one of the protestors at the French embassy in Tel Aviv in 1968. You may remember that double cross, but you’ve totally forgotten that neither Trump nor anyone else in the U.S. had anything to do with it.

Not everyone here in Florida is happy with trump but we have no choice now

    • Liz Rome

Ellen– there’s always some people “not happy” with the results of an election. But sane people know that **majority rules and there will be another election in the future. “Not everyone” is a foolish, liberal, meaningless twist on reality. Trump won Florida 56.1% to Kamala’s 43%. That’s more than decisive–it’s a mandate. As for a —choice— How could a good Jewish person ..(with a brain and a heart) not KNOW that Kamala has no principles; says whatever her audience wants to hear; every time she said she “supports Israel” (in spite of not attending Netanyahu’s speech to Congress) she added –but the Gaza civilians and repeated Hamas propaganda. Trump is a proven friend of Israel–Kamala is an enemy.

Dear Naomi, first, thank you for your support of Trump. It’s a great feeling by me to know that he’ll Israel’s back. Like you, there is some apprehension regarding what Biden might do before leaving office but I’m guessing he may just be resigned to the fact that he lost, twice!
Finally, I appreciate your comment about Gallant. Manny of your observations have brought to light the real difference of opinions that Bibi mentioned in his public report on the firing of Gallant. Most of what you noted was unknown to most of us outside of Israel. Again, a great job of telling your readers the full, and truthful story.
G-d bless Israel and the IDF. Gig

  4. Rachel Zimmermann

    Hallelujah Naomi!
    We are overjoyed as well.
We’re very conservative Republican Jews that are elated with the red wave in our country.
What we are devastated about are the 70 plus percent of American Jews who are still enslaved to the Democrat Party.
    It’s a true Shonda.
    G-d Bless

    • Liz Rome

Right there with you Rachel……I know there are some “non -observant” Jews. But even THEY should be able to see clearly–based on past Trump accomplishments–who is Israel’s friend and supporter And who doesn’t care and uses Israel as a political pawn for votes. Thank goodness that situation is over.
