“I’m exhausted,” I told my husband today.
“Yeah, me too,” he answered.
I wonder why? A year of rocket attacks – 120 from Lebanon to our area in the North just over the weekend and increasingly hysterical rhetoric from the genocidal maniacs in Iran, threatening a response they are describing in words like “crushing, annihilating, unprecedented…” Commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards: “Hezbollah will soon bury Israel in southern Lebanon.” You get the idea. News sources report Iran transferring ballistic missiles to another Arab country (Iraq?).
And then there is the tension of the American elections which threatens to put into power such enemies of Israel as Kamala Harris, who even though she may ultimately be powerless, controlled by the deep state cabal that put her into this election in the most undemocratic process ever… is nevertheless in a position to deny Israel the crucial help she’ll need to survive an unprecedented Iranian attack. Israelis are preparing for an all-nighter to get elections results. Billboards all over Israel https://t.me/ILtoday/9504
Yes, we’re exhausted.
Good thing our troops aren’t! Heroically, the IDF is destroying terrorists and their infrastructure at an amazing pace in both Gaza and Lebanon.
I am in awe of the people of my country. Take the Mayor of Safed, whose city is under constant rocket fire. Instead of pushing for a ceasefire, he staunchly encourages our government to “finish the job.” The Hamas invasion was catastrophic, “but it was followed by a miracle,” says Mayor Yossi Kakon. The preemptive invasion of Lebanon by Israel was just in the nick of time, thwarting Hezbollah plans for a widescale invasion and occupation of the Galilee which would have caused ten times the number of casualties than the Hamas invasion of the south. Hezbollah’s Radwan force was better trained and better equipped, with huge underground bunkers all along the border holding everything from backpacks to RPG’s to soup kitchens.
A few days ago special envoy Amos Hochstein (who, by the way is an Israeli who went to a religious high school in Jerusalem with my son before he gave up his Israeli citizenship and became part of the Biden administration) left empty-handed. If you were wondering what kind of “deal” the Americans were brokering, it was this: Israel withdraws and stops fighting. That’s it. That was the plan, the one Joe Biden said would be implemented “in ten days.”
Netanyahu said: Not happening.
Speaking today from the northern border, Prime Minister Netanyahu said:
“From here you see and hear the change in reality – planes above and our heroic fighters on the ground, across the border line, eliminating the entire underground terrorist infrastructure that Hezbollah prepared for the raid on the Galilee and an even bigger massacre than the one that happened in Gaza. It won’t happen again.
“We strike in all parts of Lebanon. And I want to make it clear – that with or without an agreement, the key to restoring peace and security in the north, the key to returning our residents to their homes is first of all to distance Hezbollah beyond the Litani, and secondly to strike at any attempt by it to rearm, and thirdly to respond firmly against any action against us. “It’s all about: enforcement, enforcement, enforcement.”
Israeli papers are reporting that out of the remaining 102 hostages, only 51 are still alive. I don’t know how they know this, but it is heartbreaking if it is true.
From Israel Today: During an intelligence based, special operation in Syrian territory that took place in recent months, Israeli soldiers detained an Iranian terror network operative. Ali Soleiman al-Assi is a Syrian citizen who lives in southern Syria. His activities included gathering intelligence on IDF troops in the border area. The operation by IDF troops to detain al-Assi prevented a future attack and led to the exposure of the operational methods of Iranian terror networks located near the Golan Heights.
Israel has passed its 2025 budget. I am amazed they were able to do this considering how many conflicting needs the country has to deal with.
The reservists will continue to receive various supports amounting to NIS 9 billion. The revival plan for the Gaza Envelope is NIS 5 billion. The plan for the reconstruction and development of the north, NIS 15 billion, will begin to be implemented, as soon as the war on the Lebanese border stops, hopefully in 2025.
National Insurance payments will go way up (this is the place that pays people if their homes get hit by rockets.). But the payments for the elderly, Holocaust survivors, and others will remain steady. Taxes will go up. Let’s face it, someone has to pay for this war.
According to Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, “the economic plan includes reforms in a number of key areas – streamlining the public sector, the fight against black capital and acceleration programs for the economy and in the high-tech sector, ultra-Orthodox employment and encouraging the housing market.”
Once peace breaks out, I’m sure we will deal with everything else we need to.
And maybe then we can all get some rest.
