I have been trying to keep myself upbeat, but to tell you the truth, it’s getting harder and harder. We are living in a terrible time, when inhumanity, savagery, antisemitism, and the breakdown of all moral codes is washing over civilization like a tsunami. Western governments, who invited the barbarians at the gates inside as if they were honored guests, are now finding it hard to deal with the consequences. The universities seem to have been the incubators for the worst kind of ignorance and intolerance and barbarism.

I remember when I was researching my latest book on the Holocaust in Lithuania – a place where 94 percent of the Jewish community was murdered by their neighbors – thrown into killing pits and shot – mothers, children, the young, the old, over a period of weeks, that the murderous antisemitism began in the universities. Nazism took hold in German universities first, and from there it spread.

There is something about institutions of higher learning that serve as petri dishes for the worst kind of lethal bacteria. Perhaps because freedom of thought is necessary in order to learn and to teach. And this freedom, like all freedoms, is taken advantage of by the most evil people to spread their poison.

Sometimes, when I’m down, I think: we, the Jewish people, having been going through this crap for centuries. We should really, by all rational accounts, be extinct by now. And then I think about what the world would look like if the Jewish people were extinct, from G-d’s point of view. There wouldn’t be any turmoil, any world-wide protests discussing what is good and what is evil. Islamic wars would continue, the savagery unchecked. Other groups would be targeted: Christians, Sikhs, Hindus, Buddhists. And when the Muslims finally took over the entire world, it would be calm and united, exactly like North Korea.

I guess this is not G-d’s will.

Israeli universities issue a call to scholars to join them in Israel:

“We, the Heads of the research universities in Israel, express our growing concern over the violence, anti-Semitism, and anti-Israeli protests that are plaguing the campuses of leading US universities, with the backing of Palestinian groups, among them terrorist organizations. We strongly condemn the current state in which Israeli and Jewish faculty members and students no longer feel safe to attend campuses or identify as Jewish out of fear for their safety.

“We do not doubt that the heads of these universities are doing everything in their power to fight these sights, and we understand that dealing with radicalized, violent, hate-driven groups is complicated, difficult, and at times requires tools outside of the administration’s toolbox.

“The freedom of expression and the right to protest are cornerstones of democracy, and academic life in particular, and we continue to acknowledge their importance even through these difficult times. However, freedom of expression and protest do not include the right to intimidate and use violence against any community or group and do not include the freedom to incite and call for the destruction of the State of Israel.

“We wish to strengthen Jewish and Israeli students and faculty members in these hard times. We will assist Jewish and Israeli scientists and students who are interested in integrating into Israeli universities and finding a new personal and academic home here in Israel.

(Signed [residents of Israeli universities])

I could bring you blah-blah from Hamas spokesmen, but it’s a waste of time. They simply repeat their demands. But it is notable that they keep repeating that they “don’t regret what they did on October 7, despite the destruction in Gaza” (AP interview with Khalil Al Hayya, a Sinwar deputy). They want a Palestinian state. They want the right of return (millions of jihadis flooding into the country). They want their (convicted mass murderer) prisoners released. And they have no idea how many of our people whom they abducted are still alive.

I have a dream and it looks like this: the IDF going into Rafah, destroying it, rescuing our live remaining hostages and finding out what happened to the rest, finding Sinwar and his family and the rest of the Hamas barbarians and barbequing them. All the Israeli protests for the release of hostages have only hardened Hamas’ stand, as they revel in the discord and civil strife in Israel. Only ten hostage families have participated in these events, the rest clearly understanding that they only serve the enemy and push rescue attempts farther off.

Now I hear that threats against individuals by the ICJ are giving Netanyahu weak knees. Is that true? I don’t know. My granddaughter serves in the nerve center of the IDF. She gets all the news in real time, and of course is not allowed to share anything. But she did tell me that much of the time what we hear through our news channels is not accurate, and sometimes completely inaccurate. We live in a fog of uncertainty, fear and disinformation; but also in the hope and faith that the Jewish people are important, are central, are serving a vital role in world history, now as ever.

This present horror shall pass. This is my hope and my faith.

Happy Passover.

I knew you would be saddened today. I am too. I don’t watch or listen to CNN or NPR as the previous commentator states she is going to stop. The U.S. is sick, open borders, Universities worse than pre-Nazi times and I very much hope and pray. For 1. We oust the back stabbing idiot in the White House and show again no daylight between the U.S. and Israel. And all that comes with that, putting all the sanctions back on Iran that Biden removed which enriched them. 2. That the FBI, and a new Homeland Security can be enabled by President Trump to close the N. And S. Borders and for 2 nd time, block money to UNWRA AND Send a pro U.S.and pro Israel the U.N. He will also enable the F.B.I
And all agencies to find those involved of terror planning And crimes
    3. That the U.S. can be saved in.part from the utter destruction brought about by Biden and the damage caused which would take far longer than 4 years. ( He won’t bother much with the treasonous and corrupt Bidens, as too much is critical to our and your survival. As always I hope, I pray every day and night ,that there are hostages alive, they are freed from Rafah and Sinwar and cronies are erased. And after that, Israel has new neighbors, signed onto Abraham Accords. Another great thing Trump and fine people worked to bring about. Still critical to peace. I pray for strength and wisdom for families of hostages. And that the students unable to graduate because their safety can’t be assured and some need Israel studies for Middle Eastern but radical pro terror Instructors make it impossible, that they are offered opportunities within U.S. and that some choose Israel to complete studies.
A Happy Passover to you and yours Mrs. Ragen.

Naomi, form your mouth to God’s ears. This is my prayer as well. This Western world has lost its moral compass. I heard Ilhan Omar interviewed briefly -she was disgusting. How has the western world become inundated with Islamist teachings? People like her voted into positions of power by other people who clearly hope to bring Islamist Jihad to the Western world. Good luck America. Women you better be ready to put on your birkas, and keep yourselves hidden.
I’ like you, continue to pray. Seems like the muslims would rather prey.

I find that the American press loves to show pictures of Gazans suffering and starving and blown up buildings- clearly differentiating this from the war in Ukraine. I can’t feel comfortable here anymore. Besides, I have lived my life torn between my adaptation to life ion Israel including IDF – 1968-9 and Hebrew U. All my life, I have wondered if I made the right choice. I constantly think of Frost’s poem on the subject. Yes, hindsight may be 20-20 but I never expected to fear my Jewishness. I have renounced my support of NPR- they have had program after program about the poor people of Gaza enslaved by the warring Jews of Israel. All this disgusts me. I know that Israelis prefer Trump but if he gets in, there will be no more democracy and he is a criminal and thoroughly despicable as a human being. So I feel angry, defenseless and not heard. Things have to get better, right?

I do wish people would stop making pronouncements about what would happen IF Trump became President. In case you missed it, Trump already was President. And all the things you think would happen, didn’t actually happen.

As for calling him “thoroughly despicable as a human being” take a look at the moral black hole currently in office – and his appalling offspring. Take a look at what has happened around the world since that affront to the human race was shoehorned into power by people who thought that anyone, anyone at all would be preferable to Trump. I mean – Look around you!

Please don’t allow yourself to be brainwashed by the media into thinking that way about Trump.

Now, I’m not living in the United States so I won’t be voting in the upcoming election, and I have no loyalty to either of the two big parties over there. But anyone, in any part of the world, can see what an utter disaster that ambulatory corpse in the White House has been. Even his own Department of Justice say he’s too mentally incompetent to stand trial! What is that all about ? He’s so out of it that he can’t be held accountable for his actions? But hey, he’s not Trump, so we’ll put up with it, eh?

How many times does that lying, incompetent, utterly corrupt entity have to stab you in the back before you wake up and smell the coffee???

Thank you KD! You said exactly what I was going to say, but it was even better coming from someone outside of the US. The only thing I’d like to add is that the NPR has admitted to be being radical left, people need to understand That and stop being surprised at what they hear there. There is a movement to stop our tax dollars from going there any longer. Also to stop George Soros from buying up any more radio stations. Stop listening to the media folks!!!!! Do your own research and listen to Trump speak with his own words in their entirety, not bits and pieces.

          Hi Karen,
I’ve been thinking about how Trump could name his VP early on – and really make it clear that they would be handed unprecedented powers to reshape the country in their own image.

And I was thinking that Dana White could be the man for the job.

          Can you imagine?

          TRUMP / WHITE 2024

A *double* trigger for the snowflakes, LOL

They could have as their campaign slogan:

          “Let’s get ready to rumble!”

PS I’m kind of kidding around here . .. but not really. Talk about headlines – that would be the biggest story ever. (Until they won.)

          • KD

PS perhaps in their own image was a poor choice of phrase – maybe “as they see fit” would be better. I was thinking of how they envisaged their country, as it should be, and as it could be, once the swamp creatures had been removed and people had regained their sanity.

          • Karen

KD, Ha! 2 very common sense men, that would scare so many people, but I tell you it could be a great shake up. I swear this country needs non-politicians so bad! We need term limits… and to get rid of life long professional politicians. Wouldn’t that be so refreshing for people to just say what they mean?!?

I hope you do not mind if I share with you what I was reading earlier this afternoon:

“Isra’el is set aside for ADONAI,
    the firstfruits of his harvest;
    all who devour him will incur guilt;
evil will befall them,” says ADONAI.

    Jeremiah 2:3 CJB

Woe to those who call evil good
    and good evil,
    who change darkness into light
    and light into darkness,
    who change bitter into sweet
    and sweet into bitter!

Woe to those seeing themselves as wise,
    esteeming themselves as clever.

    Isaiah 5:20-21 CJB

I must tell you that several years ago (in my pre-cancer years, when I was fit and healthy, and I was spending a lot of time in the gym) I bought myself a sweatshirt with the logo of Sderot front and center, and being cognisant of the missiles regularly being fired on Sderot by the enemies of humanity, I had printed underneath: Isaiah 5:20.

I wore that sweatshirt everywhere I went, and I must tell you, I got a few strange looks as I was walking about. On one occasion as I was walking along Union Street in Aberdeen, a young, hairy gentleman wearing a T-shirt with a black, white and green striped flag came along the other way. I saw him checking out my sweatshirt, and I got myself ready for action. I made up my mind that if this f*&^er started, it would be game on. I couldn’t tell if he was too stupid to understand what he was looking at, or if he decided after looking at the size of me that taking me on would not have been a prudent course of action. In any event, he walked on by, and the opportunity was lost.

Just thought I’d share that story with you . . .
