GAZA WAR DIARY: 25 JULY 2024

I sat down and read through the entire speech of my Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It was magnificent. I want to thank him for being the conduit for the wisdom of our Jewish heritage which places so much emphasis on the sanctity of life. It is not a coincidence that Jews are the ones facing the Iranian monster which glorifies and sanctifies death and martyrdom. We Jews are fundamentally, immovably, opposed to such ideas and our conflict with jihadis can never be resolved. It is an eternal battle to the death. I thank Mr. Netanyahu for making Americans, and the rest of the world that was listening in, including millions of Muslims, understand this; for making the case for our beliefs, and standing proudly as a Jew, and as a defender of civilization against barbarism.

So many have forgotten what this conflict is really all about. Thank you Mr. Netanyahu for clarifying it so that even the most deluded must now understand what it is Israelis are fighting for, and that we are the only side for those who love God, love life, and respect civilized norms, to be on. In his Churchillian words: “It’s a clash between those who glorify death and those who sanctify life.”

One of the most moving passages in his speech was the story of Yehiel Leitner, whose father escaped the Holocaust, and whose son Moshe became an officer in an elite commando unit, all the while raising six children. He served with distinction for two decades, and then retired. But on October 7, Moshe volunteered to return to his unit. He was killed when a booby-trapped mine exploded in a tunnel shaft next to a mosque. At his son’s funeral, Yehiel said: “If the State of Israel had not been established after the Holocaust, the image engraved on our collective memory would have been the photograph of that helpless Jewish boy in the Warsaw Ghetto holding his hands in the air with Nazi rifles pointed at him. But because of the birth of Israel,” Yehiel continued, “because of the courage of soldiers like my son Moshe, the Jewish people are no longer helpless in the face of our enemies.”

I agree with Netanyahu. “Never Again” must never be an empty promise. It must be a sacred vow.

Netanyahu did an amazing thing. In front of the entire world he gave a history lesson of the Jewish connection to the land of Israel. He gave a lecture about the scourge of antisemitism, and he gave the finger to the genteel antisemites of academia, the world court, and those who have fallen for Hamas propaganda. He defended Israel against the libels of starving the Gazans, of targeting civilians. Most importantly he reminded Americans that both our countries are at war with Iran and its fanatic plan to export murderous jihadi violence in order to impose universal Sharia law.

He reminded Americans that before they can conquer America, Iran needs to conquer the Middle East, and tiny Israel – the one proud democracy in the entire region – is the only thing standing in their way. And then he said this: “Our enemies are your enemies, and our victory will be your victory.”

My deepest thanks, and profound gratitude to you, Prime Minister Netanyahu, for telling the world the truth in all our names.

Every day we see the true face of our enemy that is so hidden from Western useful idiots. Today, rockets were fired by Hamas from the center of the humanitarian zone. This is monstrous on many levels: that they are setting up weapons in this area inviting attack and endangering civilians. But in this case, the rockets landed within the camp, killing numerous Gazans.

Israel has been doing something differently in Gaza because there are fewer casualties among our troops. It think it’s the robots placing bombs that can be detonated from afar.

Acting on precise intelligence, Israel was able to bring home the bodies of five Israelis being held in a tunnel in Khan Yunis. Imagine, kidnapping dead bodies and holding them for ransom… This is who we are fighting against. Barbarians.

And I cannot end without saying a few things about Kamala Harris, who did not attend Netanyahu’s speech, even though it was her job to do so (I know, I know. She had ‘prior commitments’. Baloney). Quite aside from her anti-Israel stance, Kamala Harris is the candidate of the far-out crazy Left that has made America less safe, less free, and less prosperous. Here are some inconvenient facts about her voting record:

  • She co-sponsored legislation to protect illegal immigrants from deportation.
  • She backed Bernie Sanders’ Medicare for All Legislation and supported giving taxpayer funded coverage to all illegal immigrants.
  • She backed banning private health insurance.
  • She backed defunding the police.
  • She compared ICE to the KKK.
  • She wanted to undo the Trump administration’s border security, supporting 94 executive actions in the first 100 days of her administration to rescind nearly every Trump-era measure.
  • She supported decriminalizing illegal border crossings, said she wouldn’t treat illegal aliens as “criminals.”
  • She raised money for the Minnesota Freedom Fund, a far-Left organization that pays to bail our violent criminals, including accused murderers and rapists.
  • She supported Los Angeles’ cuts to their police department and called efforts to add more police to the streets “wrongheaded thinking.”

I can’t understand why any American would vote for her. She isn’t intelligent. She isn’t a leader. She’s a lackey of the far-Left, which makes her an enemy of the common people.

And for those of you out there who will no doubt tell me to shut up, that this is America’s business and I’m not an American, I say this: I’ve paid U.S. taxes for fifty years, and voted in every election. Just because I live in Israel, doesn’t mean I don’t care about my birthplace.

This is my business, as an American and as an Israeli and a Jew. And as a human being who wants the world to defeat the barbarians who threaten us all, whether they break down the border fences surrounding Gaza, or crawl through the barbed wire along the Rio Grande, or sail into Europe on their boats.

I read your column daily, seeking realistic clairification. While Harris may be far from ideal, more frightening is Trump’s goal of total domination and radical moves to the unspeakable far right. At the moment the outlook is dangerous on both sides given the rise of persons such as the Governor of Florida with his draconian disregard for individual freedoms. Like so many others, he sprouts support of Israel but only to support his own causes. For the first time since I began voting I am truly frighted for the US and projections of the lack of real support for Israel. Please keep writing. We need your voice.

“I believe support for Israel will be there if not vocally but behind the scenes.” – SD

This is nothing more than wishful thinking.

It’s people like you who have brought the world to its knees by voting for these catastrophically inept, ideologically driven, power hungry fanatics, who have allowed these terrorist attacks and wars to happen on their watch!

WAKE UP! STOP VOTING FOR THESE PEOPLE!

  3. Naomi Ragen

It is people like you who will destroy America and take Israel with her. Trump is your only hope against the rise of real Nazis. Look at American streets taken over by Hamas! Where is Biden-Harris? Wake up!

Naomi–I have read enough of your writings as well as every column in your diary…and know you will never “shut up”. Double down! Talk more loudly, more strongly!
I sat on the edge of my chair with tears in my eyes listening to Netanyahu deliver his speech. It truly was an amazing lesson in Jewish history; beautifully crafted.
His directness was so needed at this time. I hope it resonated with some undecided people and intelligent Democrats who see their party has changed for the worse.
Kamala is as much of, if not more that a useful tool of the anti-Semitic elites and screaming liberals than Biden. Kamala showed in her comments after her meeting with Netanyahu where she tried to play…both sides, that she is uninformed, lazy and willing to push Hamas lies. She is dangerous.
Some of my father’s family were Holocaust survivors. Many were murdered by the Nazis. We MUST push back hard now against the growing anti-Semitism. Netanyahu was also correct when he said: Never again is NOW.

Absolutely NO ONE should ever shut you up. What is really amazing is those who tell you not to speak about American politics, which especially as an extremely well-informed American you of course have very right to do, are often the first to share their opinions about Israeli politics when they are not Israeli citizens and in most cases don’t have a clue about what is actually happening here.
As still a registered Democrat I am ashamed of my party which is continuing to operate from its dishonest and undemocratic handbook by swapping out one lying incompetent with a perpetual smirk on his face for another lying incompetent with a perpetual sickly grin on her face.

Thank you for continuing to shine the light on Kamala-the Jew hater. She is an opportunist and probably grabbed her Jewish husband for political reasons. She has no love for Jews or Israel. Trump created the Abraham Accords and moved US embassy to Jerusalem.
    Netanyahu made us all proud!!

  7. CW Joiner

You just can’t get any better. If only there more intelligent people among m,y countrymen, who could recognize the beauty of your mind, and that of Netanyahu. I love Israel, and the Jewish people. Thank you for being here.

before Kamala Harris was in anyone’s thoughts as a politician, she was Willie Brown’s
( remember him, Mayor of San Franscisco, I think ) girlfriend!
    that certainly served her well.

    • Gigi Kramer

And don’t forget, he was married (if separated) at the time…and somehow they want to distance themselves from the idea that a 60 year old established politician had very little to do with the rise of Harris, other than appointing her to several boards. I’m NOT with her! In her remarks today after meeting with Netanyahu she never once mentioned the release of hostages should be unconditional, NO PRISONER SWAP! This will be their October surprise, “we ended the war”. Ugh.

Thank you, Naomi, for your wisdom and shoot-from-the-hip common sense writing. Hearing your brave uncensored voice here in the US is something so many of us look forward to. Keep it up and be safe. Prayers up for the safety of and safe return of the hostages, prayers for their families and loved ones, and for the IDF who are doing the important work on the ground.

I watched Netanyahu’s speech and I cannot tell you how proud I was of him and how ashamed I am of fellow Americans from the Democrat party. So, folks are trying to stifle your free speech when it comes to your thoughts on American politics? So interesting that American Jews and T’ruah rabbis feel not only a legitimate right but an obligation to criticize Israeli laws, politics, society and democracy despite not living there, nor serving in the IDF to protect the land they criticize. Entitlement at its loftiest.
Thank you for every single entry you have shared. I await my daily email to learn your perspective of what is going on in Israel. I hope that one day you will compile the entries in a book. It will be required reading for future generations.
    Much love
    Gail

There’s another word I prefer to barbarians to describe what Hamas does to our Jewish people- savages. And as to whether you have a right to comment on American politics- not only do you have the right and obligation as a citizen, every person who guides his/her life according to a moral code based on the sanctity of human life does as well.

  11. Helen Rauch-Elnekave

I am a dual citizen now living in the US. Please know that I agree with every word you wrote. And apparently so do most of the members of Congress who gave Bibi more standing ovations than I could count!

  12. Mary Lou S

I agree wholeheartedly with Alan: KEEP TALKING! DON’T SHUT UP. I loved Netanyahu’s speech – it gave me chills. I don’t have to repeat all related in today’s diary; I agree with you 100%, Naomi. I think Joe Biden is dense; dumb; and dangerous (I am from Delaware and oh the stories I could tell – I am 72 and I have been “around” him for a long time to know. He was always an opportunist and a nincompoop – his colors have not changed). As for Kamala, to be honest, I think she’s may be a bit high on pot (or drunk) sometimes when she speaks. What leader in their right mind can seriously discuss the delight of yellow school buses – what a goof (“remember those yellow buses….?”) – goodness; she had to have been smashed. If I was at a gathering and someone said this to me, I’d strongly suggest he/she decline further alcoholic drinks. I continue to pray for Jews, for the country of Israel to win its war against terror and all its enemies be forever destroyed. I pray for its leaders also. Now, if anyone is bothered by my battering of the Biden/Harris “team” i will not apologize. Trump said, “Harris is vicious and dumb; a bad combination.” God bless Israel and Jews around the world. I am Christian but goodness, I do love and admire the Jews, our elders.

  13. Jonathan

Naomi – your comments today in support of Netanyahu’s exceptional delivery to congress, were equally exceptional!
One can only hope and pray there are not too many misinformed out there who vote for Kamala . It would be a HUGE mistake.
    Keep up your incredible writing!

  14. Ellen

    Wonderful entry today.
I have not heard Netanyahu’s speech to Congress and will do a search for it.

Unfortunately, trying to teach people who refuse to open their minds is useless. From what you wrote, I doubt that those who believe the hamas bs will continue to believe it.
