The longer this war goes on, the more it feels like a Russian novel, with so many characters, so many plot lines, so many heroes and so very many villains. Sometimes, when I sit down to write this Diary in the evenings, so many thoughts go through my head, flying this way and that like flocks of migrating birds going in every direction. I can’t follow them all. This is especially true when nothing major happens, like freeing hostages, or blowing up Mohammed Deif.
On “regular” days, I have to choose where to put my focus. Should I talk about all the attacks attempted by Hezbollah in the North, and the number of Hezbollah operatives we have killed? Or should I talk about the latest developments in the Oslo Accord nightmares of Tulkarem and Jenin, where the IDF spends so much time tearing up booby-trapped streets, and eliminating terrorists strutting around like they own the place?
Of course there is always something to talk about in Gaza. Even after all the bombing and all the fighting there are still 50,000 armed Hamas terrorists left embedding themselves into the “civilian” population. Every day, the Hamas “Ministry of Health” makes up new statistics to fob off on the gullible public about all the women and children the IDF has killed. Whatever their numbers, it will never be the 50,000 terrorists that we need to kill.
Countries all over the world listen to this garbage. It’s affecting how they relate to this just war, and making it hard for Israel to continue. Even allies like Germany who have actually begun to take a very tough stand against Islamic terrorists on their own soil, shutting down mosques and arresting terrorists, even they are considering refusing to supply us with the weapons we need to finish off Hamas.
Today, all day, I heard the unmistakable sound of jet engines flying overhead on their way to Lebanon. Believe me, it was non-stop. I checked my usual news sources: Ynet, Israel Today, Abu Ali Express, but nothing was said about any operation in Lebanon. This is just the kind of thing that drives me crazy. All the things going on that you don’t know about, and won’t know about, until someone, somewhere decides to tell you. I understand security concerns. I understand that we aren’t at liberty to reveal everything. But still …
A lot of people are feeling this way, including non-Jews. Ami Jameel, a member of the Christian Al-Kataib party in Lebanon, said today: “I want the residents of South Lebanon to live in peace and quiet for 50 years. The way to do this is for the state of Lebanon to enforce its sovereignty over South Lebanon. Do I have the right to an opinion on the way in which my people in South Lebanon should be protected? Or is the only accepted opinion in this country that of Hezbollah according to which the residents of southern Lebanon should live in a state of war for another thousand years to come? This is because they do not recognize the State of Israel and consider their weapons ‘holy.’ They are turning South Lebanon into a battleground that will never end. Are we allowed to dream that we can live in peace in our country?”
I so sympathize.
And then there is the son of the king of Bahrain, our partner in the Abraham Accords. This wonderful video filmed last week in the U.S. was a much needed bright spot. Listen as the prince explains in fluent English that the peace his country made with Israel was without preconditions on their part and it was the best thing Bahrain could have done. He actually points here to a principle we have forgotten in our neighborhood: “Peace in exchange for peace”.
And so, the hostage negotiations. I don’t know about you, but I can’t deal with this anymore. I can’t stand looking at the photos of these helpless prisoners in the hands of the new Nazis. I can’t bear to imagine what they are going through. I can’t bear to imagine what their families are going through. I can’t bear the weekly news of hostages that have reportedly been murdered in Hamas hands.
Even more, I can’t stand that this entire subject has been highjacked by the Israeli Left to hammer Netanyahu nonstop, even though there is nothing much he or anyone can do to speed things up besides surrendering our country to terrorist demands.
Shortly before Netanyahu spoke to Congress today, he met with Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson who said after the meeting: “We are united in his mission to return the abductees. Israelis are working to defeat Hamas following the terrible massacre of October 7. There is also the threat of Hezbollah in the north, the attack by the Houthis in Tel Aviv and the most serious attack by Iran in April. Israel is faced with a double standard, double morality, and the US will not stand by. Our hearts go out to the 120 men, women and children who remain in Gaza. So many are being held in the tunnels, we have not forgotten them or their families.”
The fact that Kamala Harris was not in attendance, and many Democrats boycotted, speaks loudly to who Israel’s friends are in the United States. I agree with Mike Johnson that it was “outrageous to me and inexcusable” that Harris was not attending Netanyahu’s joint address.
She is an enemy, as well as being a stupid, vulgar, immoral woman with no accomplishments who has been handed the nomination to run for President of the United States without going through any kind of democratic process.
I know there are Jews out there who are going to make excuses for her and vote for her. They are the same Jews who put her and Biden into the Oval Office in the first place. They haven’t learned anything in the interim, despite the explosion of antisemitism in America, much of it tolerated, if not actually supported, by Democratic Party members.
For shame!
