This morning, Sunday, all Israel awoke to the devastating news that six precious hostages had been murdered by Hamas as the IDF closed in on their rescue a kilometer away in the same tunnel where the Bedouin Israeli hostage was found alive. It happened soon after the Bedouin was found and saved. I can’t express to you how hard this hit us all.
Soon after, the country was hit by several terror attacks: a car bomb in Gush Etzion, and a drive by shooting in the Palestinian city of Tarqumiyah in the southern West Bank which killed three members of the police. One of them is Roni Shakuri, who lost his beautiful police daughter Mor on October 7 as she defended the overrun police station in Sderot. A double tragedy!
The IDF has found the terrorist who committed the murders of the police hiding in Hebron. A bomb on his hiding place finished him off. Similarly, terrorists involved with the car bomb were also from Hebron and have been arrested, their bomb factory destroyed.
Israel, on the other hand, is now in a partial ceasefire in Gaza of her own initiative to allow the vaccination of Gazan children against polio …This is us. And that is them. Choose your side!
The Israeli public is too distraught to see our victories. Instead, we are back to tearing ourselves apart, with the help of our stupid and irresponsible government officials. Defense Minister Gallant’s remark that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was to blame for the hostages’ deaths because he refused to give up the Gaza-Egypt border (Philadelphi Corridor) is outrageous! Gallant’s behavior shows he is long past his sell-by date and needs to go the way of others who were in charge on October 7. Step down, Gallant, and disappear!
In response to Gallant’s remarks, The Forum of IDF Reserve Commanders had this to say: “Leaving the Philadelphi Corridor will strengthen Hamas by allowing it to rearm and regain control over the Gaza Strip, which will endanger the State of Israel. In addition, Hamas may smuggle hostages as well as Yahya Sinwar and other [Hamas] leaders into Egypt – which will harm the efforts to return the hostages. There is broad consensus among senior officers on the need to control the Netzarim and Philadelphi corridors, and to conduct a systematic cleansing of the Gaza Strip.”
Meanwhile, the idiot head of the Histadrut Labor Union, Arnon Bar-David, which represents hundreds of thousands of workers has taken it upon himself to close down the country, including Ben Gurion Airport and the opening of the school year, to pressure the government to give in to Hamas demands. Because Israel’s businesses are doing so well… He needs to be arrested! But it looks like the country isn’t with him, most municipalities refusing to cooperate, and the shutdown of Ben Gurion is now limited to preventing several landings during a two hour period.
“There are those who are dancing on the blood of their brothers,” MK Smotrich put it. I agree. Using the barbarous murder of our hostages as ammunition to shoot down the government’s just policies in protecting us from Hamas’ genocidal demands of withdrawal and prisoner release is traitorous.
Most of us realize that we have just all been handed Sophie’s Choice. For those who don’t remember, this was a book by William Styron in which a woman is forced by the Nazis’ to choose which one of her two children will live.
Attempts to free our hostages will be thwarted by the barbarous Hamas intention to murder them in cold blood if they sniff an IDF rescue. On the other hand, in order to get Hamas to hand them over safely, we will need to open the borders and our jails, allowing terrorists to resupply and resume their murder spree. It is a moral and strategic nightmare, pitting the victims of the present against the victims of the future, parent against parent, child against child. It is just satanic. Just what you would expect from the ugly, bestial minds of Fakestinians (hat tip for this great phrase to Chris Messina on Substack).
I do not know the answer. But what I do know is this: All those standing out in Israeli streets with their pathetic signs pushing for simple solutions are wrong. Gallant is wrong. Bar David is an idiot.
My heart aches for those who must now bury their loved ones. It is frozen in terror for the fate of those who remain underground with these animals. But it also recognizes that the majority of Israelis will constitute the future victim-pool if the cease-fire-now-crowds get their way.
I pray to a just and mighty God to bring down His wrath on those responsible, and not to allow Hamas’ despicable machinations to destroy our unity of action and purpose and destroy our country. I hope my fellow Israelis will see through these ugly schemes and thwart them by standing shoulder to shoulder to carry the unbearable burdens thrust upon us in a way that secures our country and our citizens from further murderous attacks and kidnappings. Sometimes the easy way out is not the right way. Look at the Gilad Shalit deal that set this entire scenario in motion.
Perhaps Netanyahu’s guilt for that decision is fueling his current backbone of resistance not to repeat his mistake.
