It has been a horribly exciting week for Right-Left, Anti-Pro forces in Israel, who are always delighted to tear the country apart at the drop of a hat. First we had the delusional ultra-Orthodox demonstration of entitled yeshiva boys, all 200,000 of them, who took precious time off from their studies (wait didn’t they say they can’t take time off, so that’s why they can’t do army service?) to block traffic and climb unfinished skyscrapers, leading to a 15 year-old’s tragic death. All this to protest the notion that they have to give back to their country, not just take. Idiots.
And then there is the far more serious business of the IDF Attorney General.
First, some background: In February 2025 Israeli media reported indictments against five soldiers over the abuse of a Palestinian detainee at the IDF’s Sde Teiman detention site in the Negev. This followed months of allegations about conditions and violence at the facility, fueled by the terrorists themselves who made wild allegations of physical and sexual abuse.
You can imagine who jumped on the bandwagon to prosecute our soldiers and take the word of theHamas terroristscaptured after October 7. The same type of Israeli that had our Prime Minister testifying three times a week during an existential war because of his suspected crime of accepting a few cigars and a bottle of whiskey.
During the investigations into the supposed crimes of our soldiers against these terrorists, which was fodder for every anti-Israel media outlet in the entire world, a supposed video from the case file—showing abuse of a detainee—was leaked to Channel 12. The leak became the center of a second, separate affair: who leaked it, why, and whether the leak and the handling of it obstructed justice.
Who, you might ask—and it would be an intelligent question—would want to add more fuel to that garbage dump fire and blacken our brave soldiers’ reputations? Who would do such and thing, and why?
On Oct 31, 2025 came the answer that shocked a nation. The IDF’s own Chief Military Advocate, or Attorney General, Major General Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, told the IDF chief of staff she was stepping down and, in her resignation communication reported by Israeli outlets, acknowledged it was she who had authorized releasing the material to the media!
What!!!! The IDF’s own top lawyer did it? It was, she protested righteously, to “counter false propaganda and delegitimization campaigns against the military prosecution.”
Wait, you mean to build a stronger case against our soldiers, against those who thought that Hamas terrorists might possibly have been lying?? And that served the nation’s well-being—how?
Never mind if the video was “cooked” as politicians claim, to strengthen the blood libel against our boys, WTF was the point of giving it wide exposure? Something is truly sick in our justice system.
The woman who did it took a leave of absence. And then mysteriously disappeared leaving what sounded like a suicide note behind. She was picked up on the beach, having waded into the water. She is now in jail. But her cell phone, possibly containing evidence, coincidentally “committed actual suicide” and is no longer available.
On November 3, police arrested her, along with former chief military prosecutor Col. Matan Solomosh on suspicion of offenses tied to the leak. A Tel Aviv court extended their remand the same day.
In the meantime, the charges against the five soldiers are still winding their way through the military justice system.
Now, on another subject. I saw the movie House of Dynamite the other day. If you haven’t heard, it’s about a nuclear bomb sent from an unknown source to the United States. The soldiers are trying to deflect it, but aren’t succeeding. The politicians don’t know if they should respond, because Russia and China and North Korea all say “it wasn’t us”. The nation is in an uproar, the countdown for impact beginning and going to an inevitable end. Ten million in Chicago will die.
As I’m watching this movie, I’m thinking that as an Israeli, we’ve been living through that scenario for two years, two times a day. Rockets from unknown sources that are going to impact. Waiting for them to land and destroy. They weren’t nuclear, but we are a little country the size of New Jersey, not the continental United States. Those rockets from Iran destroyed Soroka Hospital and the Weizmann Institute. So you can imagine I was a bit surprised at the panic in this movie over one bomb.
Luckily, unlike the incompetent soldiers who were supposed to deflect it and didn’t, in the same situation our soldiers suceeded. Thousands of times. But I’ll tell you what that movie did for me: it reminded me what I lived through and that we lived through miracles.
A whole movie, about one bomb… Gee.
